Dear Dr. Jan Wheeler and the Project Joy and Hope Team,
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jan Wheeler, her team and donors for providing a place like Project Joy and Hope. It has been a space that truly feels like home during an incredibly difficult time in our lives.
Our family is from New Jersey, and we traveled to Texas Children’s Hospital so that our daughter, Kayleen, could receive further treatment after being diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer. From the beginning of this journey, we have faced many challenges. With the support of our family, the compassionate individuals we’ve met along the way, and most importantly, the grace of God, Kayleen is now doing remarkably well following her discharge.
We are incredibly grateful that we were led to the right place at the right time, for the tumor to be resected and for Kayleen to receive a life-saving liver transplant. After six long months in the hospital, being able to stay at Project Joy and Hope has been a true gift. The apartment unit is both beautiful and comfortable, and allows us to remain close to the medical center for Kayleen’s ongoing follow up care.
Having a space where our family can visit and support us has meant so much. We are deeply thankful for your generosity, the welcoming environment you've created, and the many services you provide to families navigating unimaginable circumstances. Your kindness and support have lightened our burden and reminded us that we are not alone.
Thank you for all your dedication and hard work,
Garcia - Lucero Family
